What we found
On October 12, 2026 we ran 4 common Kansas City siding searches on Google (signed out) and asked ChatGPT 2 homeowner questions three times each. 11 of the 29 contractors in our general ranking appeared at least once in Google’s map pack, the Maps list, the AI Overview or a ChatGPT answer.
8 of those 11 have a profile in the James Hardie contractor directory, compared with 3 of the 18 that did not appear. ChatGPT cited the James Hardie website in all 6 of its answers, including the three answers to the general question with no brand in it.
One of the 4 Google searches and one of the two ChatGPT questions named James Hardie. With both left out, the split is unchanged: 8 of 11 contractors that appeared have a profile, against 3 of 18 that did not.
Review volume did not separate them: contractors that appeared have a median of 127 Google reviews, and those that did not have a median of 168.
AI answers also cited company websites and comparison pages published by contractors themselves.

A homeowner who asks Google or ChatGPT for a siding contractor sees a short list. In this check, the contractors on that list were far more likely to have a manufacturer directory profile than a long review history.
