The Kansas City lists rank customer-rating evidence from matched Google business listings. We adjust for review volume, then show siding scope, materials, manufacturer records and published installation details separately. The benchmark does not score workmanship, safety, price or how well a contractor will perform on your home.
Who qualifies for the comparison?
A company must be an identifiable siding installer with a working website and explicit evidence of Kansas City metro service. Missouri and Kansas service areas are included; a supplier, national lead form or duplicate trading name is not treated as a separate local installer. We match the Google listing to the operating business and branch using its website, name, location and other available identity details.
A company needs a confirmed matching Google listing and at least ten reviews to enter the scored cohort. Missing data does not become a zero. A company with an unresolved match or too few reviews can remain in the researched records without a rank. Before calculating the edition, every eligible company receives either a usable observation or a specific recorded reason it cannot be scored.
Ratings with review-volume context
The calculation follows a fixed formula:
B = (25 × C + n × r) / (25 + n)- r is the Google listing’s displayed rating.
- n is the displayed number of Google reviews.
- C is the median rating of the complete qualifying Kansas City cohort: 4.9 in this edition.
- 25 is the fixed prior weight, an editorial choice that reduces the influence of small review samples.
We order by B rounded to three decimal places, highest first. Equal values share competition ranks (1, 2, 2, 4). Companies inside a tie appear alphabetically; that display order does not break the tie. The public value remains on the original five-point scale. A small score difference is not proof of a meaningful difference in contractor quality.
The same prior weight, review floor, observation process and tie rules apply to every company. There is no input for payments, relationships, brand preference, manufacturer tier or website polish. Filters narrow the visible list without changing published ranks.
A separate James Hardie category
The James Hardie list contains the qualifying companies for which we observed a named manufacturer contractor profile. A company’s own badge alone is insufficient for this category. The category reuses the general cohort’s median and each company’s adjusted value, then assigns positions within the smaller category.
The manufacturer’s current locator describes Select, Preferred and Elite tiers. We record the tier shown on the named profile at the observation date. Older company wording can differ. An unverified profile does not prove a company is unaffiliated; it means this edition did not establish the manufacturer record.
James Hardie states that its contractors are independent businesses and that it does not warrant installation. Its program tier is a separate fact with no scoring bonus. Read the manufacturer’s contractor guidance ↗
What the source checklist means
Company profiles compare five kinds of useful published information. This is a documentation checklist, not another score. A missing item means qualifying evidence was not located in the sources reviewed.
- Materials: At least one siding material or branded siding system explicitly offered.
- Scope: Installation, replacement or repair scope explicitly stated; no extra credit for offering more services.
- Installation process: At least one concrete siding execution step is assigned to the contractor: removal/disposal, wall inspection or repair, WRB, flashing, fastening or clearance. Generic quality/compliance/design/estimate language alone does not qualify.
- Local project evidence: Company-attributed completed siding project identifies a Kansas City metro municipality and a siding material or specific scope. Anonymous testimonials, stock images, future-tense proposals and broad service-area claims do not qualify.
- Workmanship warranty: An installation/labor/workmanship warranty is explicitly offered with a stated duration (including lifetime). A product warranty or vague warranty promise alone does not qualify; terms remain subject to the actual contract.
Company-advertised claims retain that label. A warranty statement on a website is not an audit of the actual contract, an installation inspection or a guarantee that a claim will be honored. Product and labor warranties are distinct. Generic illustrative architecture on this publication is not presented as a listed company’s work.
Source dates and important limits
This edition uses observations from October 4, 2026. An observation date tells you when the record was read, not when the company was founded or the project completed. Source pages and review totals can change afterward. AI tools assisted with research and source checking.
Google ratings are customer opinions about the matched business listing. Multi-service contractors may have reviews about roofing, windows, decks or other work. We do not classify the full review history as siding-only, calculate a review-recency percentage from a small sample, or claim to have inspected completed work. Manufacturer directory review totals are not mixed with Google review totals.
License, insurance, current capacity, written pricing and suitability for a specific property must be checked separately. A business registration is not a contractor license. Requirements depend on the project’s actual jurisdiction; see our local project checks.
Corrections and consistent treatment
Evidence determines eligibility and calculations. A correction must identify a company, a particular claim and a supporting source. If an input changes, we recalculate the entire affected cohort, including the median, ties, counts and related category results. Material updates receive a dated correction note. Submit a correction.
