Who licenses siding work in Kansas

Kansas City: Olathe, KS Olathe's residential building page says homeowners may act as contractor on their primary residence only, with a notarized affidavit. Otherwise a Johnson County licensed general contractor and/or subcontractors are required. This statement appears under the deck, roof and structural-plan permit sections, not under siding. Johnson County's license-types page names siding only under Class DW (Wood Framing). Its Class C (Residential) covers construction, remodeling and repair of single-family and duplex homes.

Kansas City: Lenexa, KS The same page says subcontractors must have a current City of Lenexa business license and a Johnson County Contractor's License on file before a building permit is obtained. The county license does not apply to fence, land disturbance and site development permits. Johnson County's license-types page names siding only under Class DW (Wood Framing). Class C (Residential) covers single-family and duplex construction, remodeling and repair.

Wichita: Wichita-area siding contractors are licensed locally. The Metropolitan Area Building and Construction Department (MABCD) licenses contractors for the City of Wichita, unincorporated Sedgwick County and small cities in its jurisdiction, with license classes for Siding and for Roofing & Siding (observed October 13, 2026). We did not locate a public list of licensed contractors: the MABCD portal’s lookup returned no results in our test searches, so these records carry no license status. Ask each bidder for its MABCD license number.

Topeka: Topeka licenses contractors locally. Kansas has no state siding license; the state registers roofers through the Attorney General. In the City of Topeka, the Development Services Division issues contractor and trade licenses and says all trades must be licensed and pull permits to work in the city; general contractor licenses come in Class A, B and C, with Class C for residential work only (observed October 13, 2026). Which license a siding-only job needs was not checked, and these lightweight records carry no license status. Ask each bidder for its City of Topeka license number.
